Tips & Instructions for Sealing Natural Paint on Wood

There are several options for painting on wood naturally. You can use the Natural Earth Paint Kit, the Complete Eco-friendly Oil Paint Kit, or the Natural Acrylic Paint on wood.

Natural Earth Paint kit

The children’s Natural Earth Paint Kit (Discovery kit or Experience kit) is a water-soluble paint that dries quickly. It’s not a professional-grade paint, but it’s still beautiful and opaque. With this method, you should seal the wood with our Natural Varnish or Acrylic Medium to make it waterproof since the paint will rub off if it gets wet. Or you can follow the recipe below to make a natural varnish from beeswax yourself.

Oil Paint Kit

Another option is using the oil paint from our Complete Eco-friendly Oil Paint Kit (pigment mixed with walnut oil). It makes an archival, beautiful, professional, eco-friendly paint! This paint is oil-based, so it takes 4-7 days to dry to the touch.

Natural Earth Acrylik Paint

Using the Natural Acrylic Medium, you can mix the medium with our Earth & Mineral Pigments for a vibrant acrylic paint that dries faster than oil paints. Or for ready-made Natural Acrylic Paints, these create a durable, water-resistant, professional quality, fast-drying paint.

Recipe: varnish from beeswax for fixing Natural Earth paint on wood

Ingredients
8 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons pure beeswax

Instructions
1. Pour the olive oil in a heat-resistant pan or bowl.
2. Add the beeswax.
3. Heat the mixture until the beeswax is completely melted.
4. Pour the mixture into a heat-resistant, sealable container for cooling and to store any leftovers.
5. Wait until the mixture returns to a more solid shape, such as lip balm.
6. Massage the mixture onto the painted wood with your hands.
7. Allow the wood to dry overnight and wipe off the remains of varnish the next day with a clean dry cloth.

You can use the children's earth paint and seal it with a beeswax/walnut oil varnish (recipe above). You can also use the oil paint and you do not need to seal or varnish it, it will take a week to dry.
